THE SLEEPING BEAUTY

The Yacobson Ballet, from Saint Petersburg was founded in 1969, Russia’s first independent company and one of the major companies on the international stage. Most of the dancers are Vaganova graduates with thorough classical training.

The premiere of The Sleeping beauty took place at Saint-Petersburg in 1890. This performance aims to revive the spectacular performance of the past in a way that will appeal to today’s audiences. Jean-Guillaume Bart wants to portray more than a simple distillation of its technical prowess. The choreographer considers ballet dancing as narration through body language. For him, the combination between classical choreography and music has its own dynamic, expressive and narrative character.
